Places you must visit in Phuket

Planning a holiday to Phuket? Great choice! Phuket is the largest island in all of Thailand, and apart from the beautiful white sandy coastline, where you get to enjoy endless lazy beach days, there are several places you definitely should visit during your island stay. Don’t miss out on the following 5 highlights of Phuket:

  1. Phuket Town

Phuket Town is the capital of Phuket Province, and it is an interesting place for anyone with a love for culture and old age heritage. Phuket town is where old meets new. The historical Old Town features beautiful Portuguese architecture, Chinese shrines and heritage mansions, really allowing you to get a sense of the old days. On the other hand, Phuket Town is home to an abundance of charming coffee bars, art galleries, boutique shops and local markets and it makes the perfect cultural break from all of the lazing at the beach. Naturally attracting artists and musicians, Phuket Town is an inspiring place with an easy-going vibe, easy to fall in love with!

  1. Patong

Patong is the island’s main tourist destination, and it’s a happening little town, perfect for beach fun, water sports and nightlife. The (in)famous Bangla Road is the reason why many people travel to Patong, and it is also the reason why many people choose to stay away from this particular area in Phuket. It’s safe to say that you’ll either love it or hate it but there is only one way to find out. So, go check out those lively beaches and beach bars, the neon-illuminated Bangla Road with its Go-Go Bars and Ladyboy Cabaret shows. Do be careful with those cocktails that are served in buckets instead of glasses. You must stay here at least one night to experience the craziness of this party town. 1. Phang Nga Bay

Phang Nga Bay is a beautiful national park of Phuket Island, featuring an emerald sea, limestone cliffs, rock formations and mangrove forests. Exploring these waters makes an amazing day trip you shouldn’t miss out. Visitors can hop in a canoe or on a boat and peddle or sail away. The most famous islands in this national park are ‘Koh Panyee’ a village floating on water, and ‘James Bond Island’ which was featured in the old James Bond movie ‘the man with the golden gun. Other than that, there are tons more little tropical islands and desolate beaches to discover and the sea is perfect for a refreshing dive and a swim every once in a while.

  1. Koh Racha Yai & Koh Hae

Also known as ‘the coral islands’, with a day trip to Koh Racha Yai and Koh Hae, you can scrap island hopping and snorkelling off of your bucket list to Phuket in one go. These beautiful islands are small enough to explore on foot and under the surface of the sea, awaits a whole different paradise of beautiful coral gardens and all kinds of exotic sea creatures.

  1. The Big Buddha

This giant all-white statue of Lord Buddha is not to be missed during your holiday to Phuket. The Big Buddha cost 30 million Thai Baht to build and it is no less than 45 meters tall. This imposing Buddha statue sits on top of a hill, and it overlooks the bays of Chalong, Kata and Rawai as if protecting the island from evil sea spirits, or so it seems. The 360-degree views of Phuket from where The Big Buddha sits is just breathtakingly beautiful!
