You may have heard the term ‘digital nomad’ being used quite a lot recently and wondered what exactly this is. Whilst it may sound like some kind of rogue computer virus which is traveling the internet attacking software, it isn’t and the truth is actually pretty awesome.
In order to give you some inspiration and a touch of education, let’s take a look at exactly what a digital nomad is, and why it is in fact, awesome.
What The Hell is a Digital Nomad?
Basically, a digital nomad is anyone who works from their laptop or computer, relying solely on the internet to get their job done, with a slight difference. The thing is that this lifestyle enables you to travel anywhere in the world and still get your day job done, this is where the nomadic bit comes in. Digital loads are those that can work from their computer and have chosen to take advantage of the fact that they can work anywhere in the world. Throughout the world there are some incredibly inspirational digital nomads who have decided to ditch the rat race and get out into the world instead.
Why Is It So Awesome?
I am pleased that you asked, in case you weren’t paying attention before, digital nomads can and do work from anywhere in the world, they travel to any corner of the world that they want to, connect to the net and do their job. You could work on the beaches of Hawaii, the glaciers of Iceland or at the top of Machu Picchu, as long as you can connect to wifi, you can get your job done.
Still Not Convinced
Aside from being able to work anywhere in the world, digital nomads don’t need to ask their boss for a day off, they don’t need to put in vacation time only to have it rejected and they don’t need to waste away in an office all day after completing their work load in less than 5 hours. Th life of a digital nomad is about freedom, the freedom to go where you want, work when you want, and from where you want. This is a freedom which many will never know and it is exactly why being a digital nomad is truly an awesome lifestyle choice.
Nothing in life is perfect and there are a few minor drawbacks in terms of living your life this way. The biggest drawback is that there are no guarantees that you will get paid every month and you need to make sure that your mind is always focussed on money. This drawback however is no different to anyone who runs their own business.
Wifi exists pretty much everywhere in the world but there is always the chance that it could be slow or fail, essentially cutting the nomad out of work. With this being said, careful planning can easily get around this issue.
